WARNING – Benefit Advice at premium rates

This is a warning about two benefit advice sites which can be accessed when using an internet browser to look for help with benefits.

If you “google” Child Benefit – the top line is to a site called “childbenefit.org.uk.  This is an unofficial site with a 0871 telephone number which charges 11p per minute (more if you call from a mobile)

Another link is to the site “Benefit Helpline” which charges £1.50 per minute from a landline but will be considerably more if it is called from a mobile.

Information about benefits can be access through the Government website DirectGov (www.direct.gov.uk) or in the case of child benefit from the Revenue and Customs website where you can also download application forms (www.hmrc.gov.uk/childbenefit).
